*sigh* What are they thinking? Another hostage standoff and one wonders who is in charge in Tehran. I know that Tehran went ballistic over the movie 300. However, what is the strategic goal of taking British marines? Iran is already on several shit lists over their nuclear program, but this provocation is almost surreal.

Middle East calculus is always hard to see from an outside vantage point. The West may be an audience, but I have a feeling that the Islamic world is the true target audience to show how weak the West is. The fact that American's closest allies are backing away from the Bush Administration is not a good sign. Weakness breeds weakness.
